Materuni Waterfalls, standing 150 meters high and nestled in the lush forests at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, is the perfect getaway for those with limited time. Located just 30 minutes from Moshi town, this tour combines natural beauty with cultural experiences, including a visit to Materuni Village and a traditional Chagga coffee tour. Materuni Village sits amidst green hills with fresh air and offers stunning views of Moshi Town and the snow-capped peaks of Kilimanjaro. Visitors can explore the village, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and learn about the heritage and daily life of the Chagga people.

While at Materuni Village and Waterfalls, you will pass through coffee and banana plantations, spot primates like black-and-white colobus monkeys, and learn about local plants, flowers, and traditional medicine. You will hike to the waterfalls, enjoy a swim in the pure mountain waters, and visit the boundary of Kilimanjaro National Park at 2,400 meters. The tour also includes hands-on coffee making, where you roast, grind, and brew your own fresh cup, all while taking in the breathtaking scenery of the slopes of Kilimanjaro.

Itinerary

Day 1: Moshi – Materuni Village – Waterfalls

Begin with a scenic 30-minute drive from Moshi to Materuni Village (approx. 1,800 meters above sea level), a region known for producing some of Africa’s finest coffee. Explore the Chagga culture and take part in a coffee tour, learning how locals grow, harvest, roast, and brew coffee. Afterward, head to Materuni Waterfalls, passing through coffee and banana plantations while your guide explains the local flora and their uses. Enjoy a packed lunch and spend the afternoon at the waterfalls, swimming, relaxing, or taking in the natural beauty. After the visit, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi.
